to quilt or not to quilt

We finally made it into NYC! After  a 5 hour delay in Chicago we finally made it! While in the airport we did A LOT of peeps watching. If I could get paid to sit at airports and watch people passby all day, I would. So interesting. Where are you from? Where are your going? Why? Why did you wear that? What's your favorite color? You know all the normal questions people want to ask other people.

These bags flooded the Chicago airport, almost every woman and some men had one slung over their shoulder. Different colors, different patterns, some were small, some BIG. The jury is still out discussing whether or not we really enjoy them or not.

On another note, my shoes got plenty of attention yesterday, even a lady decided a sneak a pic...so I decided to take a pic too, so we can ALL enjoy them once again! Wasn't sure if the attention was because they like or if their jury was still out on my feet full of sunshine?!

Off to a broodway show, shopping and fun in NYC!

the dog days are over

I love summer! It's my second most favorite season on the year. The warm weather, longer days, tans, cold drinks. Everything just makes me happy!

The winner of my favoritest season is FALL!! That's right, the leaves changing colors, the warm apple crisp in the oven, sweaters, gorging myself on homemade chili and cornbread, the smell of the crisp air, reading a good book in a warm coffee shop...I could really go on and on about how much I love fall!! The adjustment between summer and fall is the only part I don't really like very much. There's a couple weeks where you feel like a woman in menopause. Am I hot or am I cold, do I bundle up or strip down?! Hay yay yay!

The first week of our adjusting period I was away from my closet and unfortunately packed for warm weather! Luckily I was at a friends house and she had some things in her closet I could layer underneath my blazer to keep me warm. Otherwise I would've been stuck wearing a work out tank or mini skirt in the blustery rain!

polycape

This fall season I can't take my eyes off all the adorable capes everywhere! My first love was one made by Pendleton in their Portland collection. On my birthday, I went to downtown Portland to watch the fashion show which is the video you see on this page. The sad thing is my camera/phone takes horrible pictures. This is the only one that turned out decent from the whole night

Driving home today I thought more about the cape that will soon grace my closet! Here is one I've got my eye on as well a little polyvore outfit I quickly made up, you'll have to excuse the sparseness of it, it's actually my first polyvore that I've saved. As wonderful and resourceful as this site can be, it can also be quite daunting!

100 years of style

I'm a little behind on my youtube watching and blog reading, but I just watched this and am in love! They did such a great job capturing all the different looks, I had to watch it a couple times to get all the nuances in each outfit.

Enjoy!

Mad Men

skirt:vintage cardigan:UO tank:H&M shoes:F21 belt:vintage

I'm a little behind, but have finally started to watch Mad Men, feels like everyone kept talking about. So So I decided to give it a try. I'm almost done with the first season. I've gotta say, it was a little slow to get off the ground, but I just might like it! There's something about the show that I love, not sure whether it's the corny language,  the amount of alcohol consumed, or the adorable outfits Betty Draper and all the girls wear.

At work today one of my co-workers commented on my outfit, saying it's so "retro". I'd like to think it's due to the excessive amount of Mad Men I've watched in the past week being sick and in bed most of it. Was supposed to pull off a 60's outfit, but this just might have to do for the time being...
Today's outfit is a perfect mash up of Betty Draper and Peggy.

the simple things

One of the wonderful doctors I work for, brought this in for me today! I've gotta say, it's the simple things that make super happy! Haven't had a chance to browse through it yet, but New York Times and fall fashion are two things that make this Monday much more tolerable! He also informed me that Eperanza Spalding is from Oregon!!

The excitement is mounting as I prepare for my trip to NYC and the fall season! (is it mounting or mounding??) I recently learned I've been saying the phrase "cop a squat" wrong my entire life! Always thought it was "pop a squat" ... ooops! I've alway messed up those idiams like that and wondered why people were laughing behind my back, now I know!

color.block.

writers block for the color block. I had silly stories and fashion ideas, but all ended up being typed and followed by the delete button.

Nothing sounded right, I mean really, who reads this anyways. If anyone's like me, you just look at the pictures and say awesome or nah, I could do better...so lemme know what you think of my pics from my dumbdroid. Still in the market for a nice camera, would love to find one before I got to NYC!!!

Happy Wednesday y'all!

wake up call

Early this morning I hear a knock on my door....being the lazy woman I am, I checked my phone first to see if I missed any calls/texts. Hmmm..nothing?! Who could it be???

Side note: I don't know about you, but in a non-air-conditioned house, and in the middle of August, I choose to sleep 'comfortably-cool', which this morning left me in quite the predicament searching for my bathrobe as to not scare my morning friend!

The knocker heard me open my bedroom door and whispered my name. So I asked who it was...he replied, your neighbor...ooooh no! What happened???!!!!

First thought, someone broke into my car! Second thought, nah we won't go there!

So he whispers again, you left your keys in your door!

Whaaaat?!

Two things, why are you knocking then, just open the door and set them in here, or maybe not?! Second, how could I do such a dumb thing?! I mean some stranger could've come in last night and enjoyed a movie on my couch, drank my wine, and eaten the last of my pirate booty!!!

Well awkward and awesome Thursday, you're starting off with a bang!

sassy

  sas·sy/ˈsasÄ“/

Adjective: Lively, bold, and full of spirit; cheeky.

Most of my friends would say I'm pretty passive and don't confront people! But sometimes...just sometimes, I'll put on my sassy pants and walk around town telling people what's up.
Or is it bossy pants and sassy skirt?
My niece is one of the sassiest little 3 years olds you'll ever meet. One of her most famous lines is "don't talk to me". I think I'm gonna start a book of all of her sassy lines and give it to her husband so he knows exactly what he's getting in to!

Happy Monday!!!

dilemma

Since moving into my amazing new place, my only dilemma is finding a good spot to take pics. At my old house, I had a couple different outside areas I could sneak to and take my pics without anyone noticing. Here, I'm surrounded by people and houses that would def see me and think I was a little strange. Not sure if I am ready to embrace the strangeness of setting my phone on some surface to be my makeshift tripod or keep hiding in my room where the lighting is horrible!

using a fence as my 'tripod'

When I was moving I found this dress my sister got me 3 years ago for my birthday, and haven't wore in awhile! I love that she is so good at picking things out for me. So good in fact, that I have a cardigan that is the same fabric I bought not too long before she gave me this dress. I wore that alllllllll the time, great minds think alike!!! The dress and matching cardigan never made it as a couple though. Not sure if I could see that look coming back anytime soon.

What do you think?

modest

It's been off and on warm in Portland, so when I heard it was gonna be warm on Sunday I was all about the sun dress...till I remembered I was scheduled to teach in Sunday school at church...def don't want the kiddos going home and telling their mom and dad all about my rainbow bright undies. Super embarrassing!! Then I had a thought...what if, I bring back the ole shorts under the dress trick like in elementary school! That always worked and I could swing around on the bars all day with shorts on! Sadly the only shorts I have are running shorts and sleeping boxers. Then I had a DIY moment, why don't I just chop off  a pair of leggings and rock them as shorts. Here it is in it's masterpiece form...don't mind the dorky face...

Feelin old skool in the babydoll dress and bike short look. What have you done for the sake of modesty and embarrassment?

from awhile ago

It's official, I'm a slacker!!! I've been so bad about blogging since I moved into my new place! Partly because my outfits have been less than exciting lately and partly because I've been lazy! Here's just one of the many new new adventure happening at my new home.....
This evening I decided to try to be hospitable and have friends over for dinner. I was planning to make a pizza. Simple enough, right?! Nope, not for me! These ovens in my new place are adorable, I like to call it the easy bake oven, except not so easy! Long story short, there's a little on/off switch on the side. Which I thought meant oven on/off....learned that was for the oven automatic turn on at the future time you tell it to switch. Lesson learned. So glad I figured that out before my landlord came over with our appliance guy! This blonde hair may not be 100% natural, but sometimes I wonder....
easy bake oven (ignore the mess...this picture was from moving day)

This outfit goes to show, when a dress is too short, just throw another one on right underneath, no one will ever know...or will they?!

Happy almost Friday everyone!!!!

Totes Awkward and Totes Awesome Thursday!

Awkward:

Wearing my skirt backwards today because I realized there's a grease stain on the bum! I would totes rather have that on my front. This girl doesn't need any more reasons for people to stare back there!

Walked up to my apartment and found someone peering in my windows to check out my place. Gee landlord, you don't even let a girl move out before renting out her place!

Taking pictures of dirty graffiti on the side of my building and getting strange looks from an awkward man walking by. "no sir! I'm not a pervert, this is super funny and must be documented with multiple pictures! Move along"

Awesome:

It's bagel day at work!! Woo hoo! It truly is the simple things in life that make me happpy!! :)

Moving!! Just across the river again, but I love moving!

Happy hours with friends I haven't seen in foreva eva!

Building forts with my nephew and niece

Aren't they so precious!

Happy Thursday amigos!

awake my body

This outfit was from last week. I originally walked out my front door with just the dress on, but to my dismay, it was freezing cold outside! I ran back inside and grabbed this cardie and belt. Was so glad it worked out and looked pretty good, if I doooooo say so myself!

Lately most of the days here in the NW have been cloudy, so I've relied soley on music to add a lil' sunshine to my days. Lately,  I've been diggin' Alexander from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros! Take a listen to this album...you're ears will thank you!!

Lost and FoundI

Have you ever caved in and bought something nice just because you knew you'd use it so much?! Well, these sunglasses were that purchase to me. I usually NEVER pay more than $10 for sunglasses, kinda been a rule of mine since I lived in California and had a pair of sunglasses to match nearly every outfit. To this day, you can find at least three pairs in my glovebox. I'm always prepared!

Recently, my friend convinced me to purchase a pair of prescription sunglasses, since me driving + reading signs + without glasses = a joke. Aaand I refuse to wear the transition lenses (nothing against those who own them).  Since owning these Ray Bans, I've left them at friends houses, left them in my desk at work, on my head and forgot where I put them...you know all the places that once I thought about it or look in a mirror, I would find them. The other day I had absolutely NO clue where these little guys went to. I turned my room, my car, my purse, my office, my friends car and anything else I could upside. They were nowhere to be found. So I resolved that I left them at the Lucky Lab and someone thought they got lucky snagging my Ray Bans, but boy were they bummed once they figured out the lenses were owned by a near sighted bimbo.

Later on at home, I was cleaning up my searching mess and went to throw away some receipts....Lo and behold what did I find in my garbage??? My Ray Bans!!!

As you can see, I am wearing them after this discovery and 2 or 3 clorox wipes.

Was that awkard or awesome Thursday?

A little 3 year old girl came in to see the doctor I work for today wearing this shirt.

I was bringing her back to the room and was talking to her about her little stuffed pig she was holding. As I was walking out the door, I assured her and her mom, "the DADDY will be with you shortly"..... The Daddy?!?!?! I meant to say the DOCTOR!!! It's been a loooong day! Awkward or Awesome Thursday?! I dunno?! But I do know, my co-worker bout peed her pants when I told her the story and she assured me that it was AWESOME!

Is that a blouse or a dress???

I bought this skirt on a whim, but when I got home I wasn't sure what to wear on top....I almost went out and bought a navy blue blouse, cause I'ma sorta a sucka for the blue/green combo. But I'm soooo glad I remembered I had this hanging in my closet AND it fits perfectly under this skirt!

Surprise!!! It's a dress and a blouse! :)

remember day weekend

Well remember day weekend was nothing like I expected it to be. I got absolutely NO crafting done! I decided laundry and cleaning are far more responsible than making a bigger mess with crafts! Also had a friend visiting from out of town for a wedding. It may have been one of my most favorite weddings ever! Everything they did was absolutely adorable! I need a better camera so I don't have to rely on my ole ticker to keep accurate footage of these things!
the lovely bride & groom and crazy dancer behind them

On Monday, 5 of us girls decided to get out of the house and into lycra and nature! We had blast picnicking on the trail and enjoying just one of the many beautiful trail our state has to offer! Now I just gotta do that more often so I'm not so stinking sore the next day. Happy Tuesday everyone!
